About Sonica

I use an integrative style consisting mainly of schema therapy, a psychodynamic approach, and a mixture of trauma-informed therapies. This enables me to have an authentic therapeutic relationship with each client. I am here to help.

Throughout our sessions, you will find a safe space in which you may discuss your feelings and explore your own inner insight through the power of a collaborative therapeutic relationship. We will focus on actively engaging toward our goals in order to reach your greater potential. You will draw on your own personal strengths as well as develop an understanding of your feelings and needs.

You have the power to challenge your own difficult feelings and work towards healing and permanent change.

My Approach & Values

When it comes to the models I use, I am drawn to the reparenting component of schema therapy and trauma-informed therapies. Limited reparenting is one of the reasons why schema therapy is so unique. This technique is also used in other models I use and is often the foundation of the work I do in inner child reparenting.

Since most schemas are formed in early childhood and are directly linked to unmet childhood needs, this unique style of therapy uses the therapeutic relationship to help the client understand what needs were unmet and facilitate the safe space and environment for clients to experience that need being met by the therapist. With enough modelling and repetition, clients can do this for themselves.

What makes this therapy even more unique and interesting is that the therapeutic relationship is very strong and collaborative, and the interventions are very unique to the specific client. Clients often learn a lot about themselves and, because of the various types of theories I use, clients often report back that they felt a lot safer than they expected and that it was a good mix of psycho-education and collaboration. The aim of my therapeutic approach is to help clients step out of a cycle of shame and gain the insight and tools to move on independently.

Although I have seen some clients over a long period, my aim is to help clients reach a point where they can move on from therapy and treasure the work we have done together. I have degrees in psychology and journalism and have completed my counselling training through CPT and The Institute for Schema Therapy. I have done further courses in narcissistic abuse; EMDR; Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and other trauma-informed therapies.
